Henry
V
In
this his latest CD the exuberant actor Sandy McCallum follows up
his folksy rendition of King Lear by tackling the epic sweep
of the 1415 war against the French led by the newly reformed King
Henry V. Sounding like a battle-tired veteran relating an old war
story around a campfire, he takes the listener handily form the
English court and the Boar's Head Tavern to Agincourt, Harfleur,
and the vasty fields of France. With the ease of an experienced,
but artless raconteur he unravels his yarn with a disarming charm
and down home clarity which is bound to fascinate and amuse
the play's tried and true fans and to engross and stimulate the
greenhorn approaching the play for the first time.

Having
been involved with this play many times over the years, I have had
the opportunity of playing the rolls of Bardolph, Erpingham, Captain
Jamie, Pistol, Fruellen, and Corporal Nym. It has become one of
my favorite of Shakespeare's history plays, gibing me a feeling
for both the glory and degradation of war. My stronger feeling that
war is the most ridiculous method of settling international disagreements
brought me to write this somewhat comic "take" on this
great play. Enjoy!
-Sandy McCallum
